This page will hopefully help to choose the polytunnel options you require
What size of polytunnel should I buy?
Buy as big as your budget and space will allow, as you will fill it up very quickly.....
What are crop bars?Crop bars are fixed to all the internal hoops and will add approximatly 20% extra strength both snow and wind load. Also handy for hanging or to tie plants to.
- What is a base rail?
The base rail is fitted to the ground tubes and goes all the way around the polytunnel at ground level. This is used to fix the cover to. Availible in treated timber or aluminium. ''I would say it is a must'' as it strengthen's the poly tunnel at ground level, easier to fit the cover and much easier to fit a replacement cover. It also looks better as you will get straight sides instead of the trenching system where it is very hard to keep it straight. (You must concrete the ground tubes into the ground or use anchor plates when using this method.)
- What is a side rail and netting?
The side rail and netting goes on both sides of the polytunnel at about a metre high from the ground, this used for ventilation. It can be used by itself or with a roll up curtain, the curtain closes off the sides. ( normally this is fitted to both sides but can be used on one side only.)
- Can I build a polytunnel on a slope?
Yes along the length of the poly tunnel is ok, but the width should be a level as possible.
- What is the trenching system?
The trenching system means that you do not need concrete, first you would hammer the ground tubes into the ground every 5' or 6' spacing's depending on what polytunnel you have bought,(OR YOU CAN USE ANCHOR PLATES) you then build the structure including the end frames. now you are ready for the cover, dig a trench all the way around the tunnel about 150mm away from the structure and bury the cover into the ground.
- How long will the covers last?
All the covers we supply have a five season guarantee, but if looked after will last a lot longer.
- Are polytunnels easy to construct ?
Building them is not rocket science, the hardest part will be fitting the cover. A full set of instructions with every structure. (We also offer a construction service.)
- How long will delivery take?
Delivery can take only three days or in our busy time up to two weeks from date of order.
- What would the best choice of cover be?
This depends on what you will be growing and your location, have a look at the replacement polythene page for information on what the different cover are used for. Click below for more information.
